Advanced Surgery Center Christmas Party!

Bryce and I went to my work Christmas party last night at Champion's country club. It was really fun! Maybe I lived a sheltered life in Utah but I had never been to a country club where they have free valet parking, a coat check-in where they give you a number, a live band, and a free bar where you order your drinks. Bryce and I ordered a "Rum & Coke"- - -hold the Rum!:)
Our office manager presented each one of the staff and doctors with a "gag gift". As you can see I got a trash can! The story behind this is that at work I am (believe it or not) the "clean freak" and I am always organizing and cleaning off the nurses station. A few times, during this cleaning-up, I have thrown away a paper or something that someone needed. It has been a running joke at the surgery center that if you can't find something ask Brittany because she has probably thrown it away.:) My friend Lexxi got a bag of kisses because she is a very touchy and "friendly" person. One time one of the nurses was having a bad day and Lexxi jokingly asked her if she needed a kiss and the nurse said "NO thanks but you can give me a hug if you want." It was fun to see all the "gag gifts" that were given. They were all pretty appropriate.

Bryce had met most of the people I work with but hadn't met any of the doctors. It was great to introduce him to all of the doctors I have to put up with!:) One doctor who is awesome and one of my favorites said "I'm sorry you have to put up with her! She is always nagging me to sign stuff." Rude!:) Bryce also got stuck talking to a "not so sober" husband which was pretty entertaining. Anyway-- we had a great time! Merry Christmas everyone!

Tagged--A long time ago!

Well, the whole reason I started a blog was because Cori tagged me and I have gotten so caught-up in posting pictures I have forgotten to follow-up with being tagged. It seriously took me forever to think of 6 interesting things about myself... I'm kind of boring.
1- I am a perfectionist: Unless it is a time sensitive situation it usually takes me longer than most people to accomplish a task! Everything I do has to be perfect in my eyes or the best I know I can do. For example: scrap booking, shopping, cleaning my apartment and decorating! It can be both a good thing and a bad thing! It drives most of my friends and family nuts!
2- I am also a little obsessive compulsive: Sometimes I don't realize when this "personality disorder" presents itself and other times I am fully aware but don't care:) For example: I am obsessed with lights! I always turn off the light when I leave a room. I also spend some time following Bryce around and turning off lights in rooms that he has left. It honestly annoys me when a light is on in my apartment that is not being used. Another example: My purse goes in the same spot every time I get home with it. It has a "place" and as long as I am in my apartment it is in it's "place".
3- I pop/crack just about every joint in my body. This is a very unattractive habit! Every morning when I wake up I pop my elbows and wrists. Gross I know! Through-out the day I pop my fingers and neck numerous times. And occasionally I will pop my toes, knees and hips! Thankfully Bryce has gotten very used to this yucky habit unlike some of my friends. Lexxi a friend that I work with absolutely hates it when I pop my neck! She is waiting for that one day that my head is just going to pop off!:)
4- One of my biggest pet-pieves(sp?) is when someone taps on the back of my chair! I absolutely can't stand it! It makes my skin crawal! This "chair-tapping" happens to me in all sorts of different settings. It has happened at restaurants, church, sports games and movie theaters. Story: A long time ago when the movie Titanic had just come out and was at the theater I went to see it with a date. Do any of you remember how long that movie is? I think it was about 2 1/2 or 3 hours long. Well, a kid that was about 14 at the time sat behind me and kicked my chair the whole movie!!!!! AAAGGGHHHH! I will never forget that! By the time the movie was over I was annoyed, angy and very very irritated!
5- I have an elf ear!:) I am sure that I have pointed it out to most of you. My right ear has a little pointed piece of cartilage near the top of it. It really bothered me when I was younger but not so much anymore. I inherited it from my grandma Belva and she calls it my "pixie ear". Now I believe it just gives me "personality".
6- I am very independent. This is a great thing to be when your husband is in law school! Bryce would have never survived had it not have been for his wife not really needing him too much. I knew how to get around in Omaha not long after we moved here. If there was some place I wanted to go I'd go, whether I knew how to get there or not. We bought a book shelf from a Nebraska Furniture Mart this year, which came in a long, skinny box. We brought it home and Bryce had homework to do so I put it together. It took me about 3-4 hours to do it but I was pretty proud of myself! My mom saw this trait in me long before I did when, as a youth, I exhibited my dislike of being told what to do.:)
Well, now that you all know some of the undesirable traits that make me who I am, I want to hear from some of you!:)
Please tell me 6 randon facts about YOU:
Lexxi Simon
Sarah Greener
Sandi Lyman
Mindy Colovich

Law School Finals!

Law school finals are upon us! Twice a year for about 2 weeks the man I call my husband disappears and out emerges "finals Bryce"! I have contemplated in past semesters of taking Jack the cat, renting a hotel room, and waiting out "the storm" they call finals. It is a time of stress, no sleep, and empty Red Bull and/or Mountain Dew cans strewn about the house.

This is what Bryce and I like to call "the game face"! It is a permanant expression on the face of Law School students everywhere.

Bryce will take his last final of the semester tomorrow morning! Halleluah!! Then, I told him, he owes me a three day date!:) I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel of Law School finals! Bryce has one semester left! Can you believe it has already been 3 years? The happiest day of my life was the day I married Bryce and the first runner up....... May 10, 2008; the day my husband recieves his Juris Doctorate!:)

"It Happened to Us"

I am sure that most of you have heard about the shooting in the Van Maur department store in Omaha. "It happened to Us" was the headline of the Omaha World Herald the following day. Omaha is fairly small for a city and most people know someone who knows someone else. Bryce and I were not directly effected by this horrible crime but are indirectly linked to some of the victims of that day. I can also count on one hand the number of people that I know that were at the mall when it happened. This is a very popular department store here in Omaha and Bryce and I have shopped there countless times. I don't want my blog to be a place where you hear sad or negative things but I have not been able to get this event out of my mind for the past 4 days and I know that some of you have been wondering about it. It has put a very somber and solumn mood on this town. It is hard to believe that we can live in Omaha, Nebraska, and have something like this happen! I guess no matter where you go there are good and bad people. I am so so thankful that Bryce and I are safe! I love you all!

Babysitting Jaxson- -

This is my little buddy Jaxson!! We get to hang out all week while his mom (my very good friend Kristin) is at work and his dad (Bryce's friend and fellow law student) is studying for upcoming Law School finals.
He loves to play with anything that wasn't made to be a toy. For example: the lid to his bottle, coasters, hair dryers and door stoppers... to name a few!
He loves to eat and as you can see his babysitter is a messy feeder! I got more on his face than in his mouth!:) In my defense- he was very distracted by Jack the cat.

Jack didn't quite know what to think of the little stranger in his house! Jaxson would crawl after Jack and Jack would let out a sad little meow.
He definitely keeps me hoppin'! He just learned how to crawl and loves to get into and explore new things! But there is no better sound than a child's laughter and Jaxson loves to laugh! We should have a fun week!

Nebraska Ice Storm!

This picture doesn't really do it justice but this morning Bryce and I experienced our first Nebraska ice storm! This picture is taken off our back balcony. The temperature overnight was about 22 degrees with rain pouring down leaving everything covered in about 1/2 of an inch of ice. Many businesses, sports games and even scheduled events such as graduations and SAT testing are cancelled/closed! Weird huh? Bryce still managed to make his way to the law school to study for his upcoming finals:) I think I'll make some hot cocoa, put on a Christmas movie and snuggle up with Jack on the couch!!

Jack's Christmas Presents!

Well, every year Jack gets his Christmas presents as soon as I get home from the store with them. I don't want to distract him with boxes, bows and wrapping paper because then he wouldn't notice the gifts I actually spent money on. So this year Jack got a new hanging feather toy, a clear rubber mat to put his food dishes on and.........a cute little Christmas costume!!

He seemed to like the toy!!

And the costume....... not so much!

The reindeer hat is so adorable but as you can see from Jack's expression it was torture!!

He didn't really care for the red coat either!

After we put the custume together and set him on the ground he acted as though he was dead. He didn't move at all!! It was hilarious!! Bryce and I were laughing so hard we were crying! Maybe Jack thought that if he played dead it would go away.

What a good sport! Merry Christmas Jack!!
Love, Mom and Dad :)

Our 3rd Thanksgiving in Omaha

We had a great Thanksgiving this year! I woke up early to start making stuffing and pea salad. I had never made homeade stuffing but it turned out pretty good. I'll have to thank my grandma for the recipe and my mom for telling me just how to do it. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. My mom and I have a tradition of watching the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade every year so I watched it while I was cooking. Bryce really, really loved the music (i.e The Jonas brothers, Dolly Parton, Sesame Street) and all the musicals.:) Yeah right.... he complained and "made fun" the whole 2 hours that he was forced to watch it. I enjoyed it anyway! It was also pretty cold outside which made it feel much more like the holidays even though I don't really enjoy the cold. We ate Thanksgiving dinner at a friends house with 2 other couples and their children. All 4 of the men are LDS Creighton Law students. There are a lot of "us" out here!

It is nice to hang out and spend holidays with people that are in our same situation. All of our families are either in Utah or Arizona so we become eachother's families out here!

For the past 3 years Kristin and I have ventured out on "black friday" to catch some sales, spend some money and fight the crowds. We spend every Thanksgiving evening "plotting" and maping out our route! We have so much fun! This year we were at Kohls at 4:30AM and then stood in line at Target for the doors to open at 6:00AM. By the time I got home around 3:00 PM I was exhaused, hungry and had a pounding headache......but I look forward to it every year! Chances are Kristin and I will not live close enough next year to "black friday" shop together. I can't even bare the thought!

I am officially a "Blogger"!

Well, I have had a few friends (you know who you are) trying to get me to set-up a blog for the past few months and I finally gave in. Cori left me with no choice when she tagged me and wrote "it's time to make your blog now". So, thanks again Cori!:) I really enjoy looking at my friends blogs and love how it lets me into what's going on in their lives even when I don't see them too often....or ever! The best thing about blogs are the pictures so I will warn you all that mine might be a little boring until Christmas when I get a new camera. Well.....it will probably continue to be boring even after then because not much goes on in the life of Bryce and Brittany. I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures of Jack (the cat) to add to the blog.:) Well, thanks girls for the push to make a blog. Awwww...it feels great to be a "Blogger".
